Founded in 1990 by Jack Eichenbaum, a geographer in the Property Division of the NYC Department of Finance, GISMO was, in its heyday, the New York Metropolitan Area’s largest geographic information systems (GIS) users’ group, with over 700 members from city, state and federal agencies, non-profit organizations and the private sector. GISMO is now affiliated with the NYS GIS Association as its Greater New York City Area Chapter with over 100 dues-paying members. Our reach extends to thousands of GIS practitioners and associates through COGITO: The Coalition of Geographic Information Technology Organizations. GISMO is a valued forum for sharing information on well-established and emerging geospatial technologies along with news from GIS publications, meetings, vendors and business, internship and software training opportunities. Our programs typically run from one to two hours. Future schedules may vary between late afternoon or early evening to accommodate various sectors of the local geospatial community.
