The following describes the procedure that GISMO will follow in electing a President and Board of Directors.

  • Eligibility: Participation in GISMO nominations and voting processes are contingent being members of GISMO in good standing by close of business (COB) on Friday, November 6th, 2015 at the latest. GISMO dues paying members may renew their membership for the 2015 – 2016 membership year by visiting the website of the NYS GIS Association at nysgis.net. Student members are not required to pay dues but must register as members on the GISMO website: www.gismonyc.org.
  • Nominations: Nominations will be opened for President and for 8 Board of Directors positions during the period from Thursday, September 24th to COB on Friday, October 16th. Only GISMO members in good standing may make nominations and be nominated for office.Self-nominations are encouraged. Individuals can run for both the Presidency and for a Board position.   Student members of GISMO are encouraged to run for Board positions. Those wishing to nominate others should first check to ensure their willingness to run.Nominations should be emailed to Amy Jeu at ajeu@hunter.cuny.edu. Candidates for Board positions including the Presidency must submit a statement of no more than 350 words describing their candidacy that could information on education, work background, top priorities for GISMO, and other opinions about GIS; accompanied by a recent self-portrait of themselves.During the week of October 26th nominee statements and pictures will be posted to the GISMO website.
  • Voting Application: The Board of Directors will put in place an online voting tool that guarantees a secret ballot while ensuring that only GISMO members in good standing can vote.
  • GISMO Annual Meeting and Meet the Candidates Event: The GISMO Annual Meeting will be held on Tuesday evening, November 10th at 6 PM. At the meeting all Presidential and Board candidates will have an opportunity to speak and answer questions. Final meeting details will be sent soon.
  • Voting: Following statements from all the candidates, online voting can begin. Voting will end by COB Friday, November 20th.
  • Tabulating Votes: Within one week following the end of the voting period, members of the Elections Committee will meet to validate election results. Once winners are confirmed, an announcement of results will be posted on the GISMO website.
  • First Meeting: The President elect of GISMO will call a first meeting of the new Board within one month of the announcement of winners.
