On October 8th, 2026, GISMO participated in two events at The City College of New York (CCNY), connecting with students, faculty, and staff to introduce the organization, highlight career opportunities in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and strengthen connections within the academic community.
GISMO participated in the CCNY Career Fair, where more than 200 students visited the GISMO booth to learn about the organization, explore how their field of study could incorporate geospatial technology, and discover the benefits of joining the GISMO professional community.
GISMO also partnered with the CCNY Grove School of Engineering to host Discover GIS with GISMO, an event designed to introduce GISMO to students, faculty, and staff while fostering connections with geospatial professionals. The formal presentation was followed by a lengthy discussion, with students asking insightful questions about data, AI, privacy, and more. Afterwards, participants had the opportunity to network, exchange ideas, and explore potential collaborations within the GIS community.
GISMO Board members Danielle Hartman GISP, Him Mistry, and Jose Pillich, PhD represented the organization, engaging with the 55 attendees and sharing insights into the diverse applications and career opportunities in GIS.
The events were coordinated with the support of Claude Brathwaite, GISMO’s host at City College, who played an important role in facilitating GISMO’s engagement with students, faculty, and staff and creating opportunities for future collaboration between the two organizations.
