A practical guide to simple online maps

This presentation is targeted towards folks with basic programming and data analysis knowledge, who are a few key skills away from publishing their data in a web portal. We will introduce two data formats that are web-native, geojson and pmtiles. We will emphasize pmtiles because they are a recent development with great potential for efficiently serving voluminous data. We will also cover techniques for converting data into these formats, Javascript libraries to render them to a map, basic user interface structures to interact with them, and platforms for hosting them. We will use open source tools with no licensing fees and low cost website hosting platforms. This should help organizations with cumbersome acquisition processes clear some of their internal hurdles and publish insightful maps.
